Paul Rand

I really thought this was going to be my strongest pieces in my portfolio, but I was wrong. It took me a while to get the type were I wanted it, but I think that more can be done with it. I need to expand on it more and try to break it and put it back together a different way and see if it gets better. If you do not know who Paul Rand is then you really need to find out. Here is a little about him.

Paul Rand (born Peretz Rosenbaum, August 15, 1914 – November 26, 1996) was a well-known American graphic designer, best known for his corporate logo designs. Rand was educated at the Pratt Institute (1929-1932), the Parsons School of Design (1932-1933), and the Art Students League (1933-1934). He was one of the originators of the Swiss Style of graphic design. From 1956 to 1969, and beginning again in 1974, Rand taught design at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Rand was inducted into the New York Art Directors Club Hall of Fame in 1972. He designed many posters and corporate identities, including the logos for IBM, UPS and ABC. Rand died of cancer in 1996.

Project 3 Dada

This is my DADA poem. I do not have much to show digitally but I know that Kate followed my process closely with me. I wanted to do something in the punk style, and my first attempts were horrible.

It was too literal, and I did not fully understand what I was to do. After talking to Kate for a while(sorry Kate) i understood what the assignment called for. I decided to go with paper cut outs and crinkle the hell out of it.

Here is what the final piece looked like
I have a gif of the storyboard, but I can not seem to make it work right.

Project 2 Typeface

This one has been by far the toughest project I have done yet. Even today, I know that there is more that I need to do. I am planning on continuing to work on this for my portfolio review. I hope to have some packaging that can go along with everything else I have so far. On top of that I want to completely redo the illustrations. I will continue to post my work as I continue this summer so be on the lookout for more ideas and designs.

I decided to go with the type that has black strokes around the images. I felt that it is easier to read and gives the typeface more pop.

This was my first choice for my bunny Illustration.

It was too cute for me, so I changed it.
